Markus Fröhlich


Markus is supporting Rock Rail in its engagement with the German regional passenger railway market and the application of its competitive funding solutions to a range of upcoming train procurements.

Markus has more than 20 years of international management experience in the rail sector, in structured asset-based financing, project, contract, lease and asset management, including the remarketing of rolling stock and business development. He has lived and worked in Asia, Europe, North and South America.

He co-founded his own rail financial and asset management advisory firm, Apex Rail, in April 2017 with his business partner, Christian Forster. Over the last three years the company has concluded a number of high-profile advisory mandates, including the sale of a large fleet of German passenger trains to a European Investor, a sale & lease back for a major locomotive portfolio of a Western European state railway and the financing of a new BEMU passenger trains for VMS in Germany.

Prior to this, he set up and developed the rail finance advisory business and rolling stock leasing and asset management businesses at Heinrich & Mortinger Global Financial Services in Berlin.

Markus began his career in rail over twenty years ago, at Siemens and has also worked at ROSCO Angel Trains and corporate investment bank Société Générale. He has led operating lease transactions, developed structured rail finance businesses, acted as arranger, lessor and lease & asset manager and worked in various M&A, project finance and other asset-based finance transactions across Europe.
